O...I've heard two different definitions for it. One is just a catch-all for both sci-fi and fantasy, I'm guessing trying to give it a more literary-sounding pedigree.

The other definition I've heard is a specific sort of fantasy/sci-fi which mostly focuses on a version of Earth that is similar but different than our own. This would includes genres like steampunk, most of the urban fantasy, all the junk with tween vampires in high school, and lots of sci-fi set on our own world.

Not sure definition which this reading challenge is using.james m. toburenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04472161020441403914noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1675944579693820400.post-52446448146051709022009-12-11T11:01:30.636-08:002009-12-11T11:01:30.636-08:00@JuJu - Speculative fiction is basically a genre t...@JuJu - Speculative fiction is basically a genre that speculates about a world different from the real world. The story could take place in a planet/world/culture that never existed or an Earth that might have been or might be.

It includes a lot of sub-genres as well, such as: Steampunk, Dystopia, Urban Fantasy, Cyberpunk, Alternate History, Apocalyptic/Post-Apocalyptic, Holocaust/Post-Holocaust, Science Fiction, Dark Fantasy, and more.

The genre covers a lot of territory and works as a means to eliminate the need of separation between fantasy, sci-fi, horror, etc.Nikki @ Bookizzlehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05237606793752864517noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1675944579693820400.post-62484112055043548462009-12-11T07:44:37.513-08:002009-12-11T07:44:37.513-08:00Can I ask a totally silly question: What's spe...Can I ask a totally silly question: What's speculative fiction refer to?
